Services

I offer my services in three areas:

  • Publicity & Media Relations
  • Writing & Editing
  • Event Production/Coordination & Stage Management

What Does A Publicist Do, Exactly?

I wouldn’t presume to speak for all publicists everywhere, but here are the particular services that I offer:

  • Planning and execution of publicity campaigns (including compilation of a targeted media list) pursuing media coverage of a wide range of events: concerts, plays, festivals, CD releases and so on;
  • Writing & editing: media releases, bios (long ones or the capsule kind), backgrounders, copy for posters, flyers and other promotional materials;
  • Distribution of materials to a broad network of media contacts in print, radio, television and online;
  • Follow-up via phone and e-mail to pitch different angles to reporters/producers/editors with specific areas of interest;
  • Media relations: handling media inquiries, interview requests, etc.; organizing photo calls, radio/TV appearances, press conferences as necessary;
  • Consultation on overall promotional strategy: placing publicity/media relations in context with other marketing endeavours, such as paid advertising, posters and e-mail outreach.

When I am hired as a publicist, my main focus is on getting the word out to the media about the project, and garnering as much coverage of it as possible. There are many, many factors that affect whether or not something gets into print or on the air, and most of them are not within the publicist’s control. However, I guarantee that information about your project will be widely distributed, that it will reach the media contacts who are most likely to be interested in it, and that I will cheerfully and politely pester said contacts to make sure that they give it serious consideration.
