Melanie Thompson was born and raised in Ottawa, and moved to Vancouver in 1999 to do her MA in cultural history, for which she studied the role of culture in the formation of identity and community… and listened to a lot of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. She currently works as a freelance writer, publicist and production coordinator; past and current clients include the Songwriters’ Association of Canada, Laudate Singers, the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, MISCELLANEOUS Productions Inc., Tempus Theatre, the Vancouver International Storytelling Festival, the BC Highland Games and the Vancouver International Film Festival. Melanie also works as a stage manager in community and children’s theatre, and is the assistant director of two children’s vocal performance ensembles based in West Vancouver. She writes capsule bios for other people all the time, but has thus far proved utterly incapable of coming up with a clever way to conclude her own.
